This cleaning system was invented by master painter Christian Aeschbach from Niederglatt. In the meantime, the company Swiss Drone Services has emerged from it, which has been using the system practically worldwide for three years, including for the first time in Ticino last fall. “Cleaning the façade in this way is quicker, significantly cheaper and more environmentally friendly than if we had to erect scaffolding,” explains Daniele Marazza from the management of this apartment block in Minusio. He is now having all his managed houses in Ticino cleaned with the help of drones.

New legal foundations were needed to allow the system to fly so close to the facade.

The drone system for the façade is now in use in over 30 countries.

Our focus was on the stability of the cleaning drone. The strong vibrations of the high-pressure system required a rigid, lightweight part – additive manufacturing with EOS was the only economical solution.

Facade cleaning by drone

High-tech cleanliness: We use a drone to clean our facades.

Instead of using elaborate scaffolding or lifting platforms, state-of-the-art drone technology was used for this year’s façade cleaning. The drone enables efficient, safe and environmentally friendly cleaning, even in hard-to-reach areas.
The result: less effort, less risk – and a clean façade.

The following video impressively shows the deployment in action.

Drones make cleaning windows and facades much less time-consuming than using scaffolding, ropes or lifting platforms

May 2025

As the days get warmer again, spring cleaning is on the agenda for many households and companies. Instead of cleaning windows and facades by hand or having them cleaned at great expense, drones are now taking over this task. One example of such a flying cleaning service is Swiss Drone Services AG. Using modified DJI drones, the innovative company from Niederglatt (ZH) cleans, treats and inspects surfaces that would otherwise only be accessible using scaffolding or other precautions. Facades, windows, bricks, roofs or solar panels can thus be safely reached from the ground by staff – trained drone pilots. Up to a height of one hundred meters, the company promises common application techniques such as high-pressure cleaning, low-pressure coating, spraying or glass cleaning with osmosis water. In addition to cost efficiency and safety, the biggest advantage is probably the time saved: “Depending on the object and surface, between five and ten times the speed of human hands,” writes SDS AG, which was awarded second place in the 2024 Zürcher Unterland Innovation Prize.
